EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Jay Leach, who served as an assistant coach
with Larry Robinson in Los Angeles, was hired by the New Jersey Devils in a
similar capacity.
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello on Friday also named Bobby Carpenter as
head coach of the Albany River Rats of the AHL, the franchise's top minor
league team.
Carpenter, who was the River Rats' associate coach, replaces John Cunniff,
who was moved to the Devils' scouting staff along with Kurt Kleinendorst.
Kleinendorst was an assistant coach for the Devils last season.
Besides scouting this season, he will also work with the United States
Olympic team in Salt Lake City.
Goaltender Chris Terreri, who split last season playing with the Devils and
the New York Islanders, was named an assistant coach at Albany along with
Geordie Kinnear, a longtime River Rats' player.
Leach, 48, joins the Devils after spending the past two seasons as an
assistant coach with Atlanta. He spent three seasons as Robinson's assistant
with Los Angeles.
Leach was the coach of Hershey of the AHL from 1993-94 to 1995-96, and of
Springfield from 1991-93. His AHL teams won two division championships and
one conference playoff championship.
The Lexington, Mass., native began his NHL coaching career as an assistant
with Hartford in 1988. His coaching resume includes four years as an
assistant with the University of Maine and two years at Merrimack. Leach
played in the Quebec Nordiques and Minnesota North Stars systems, as well as
the Eastern League.

Carpenter, 38, was an assistant the past two seasons in Albany. In addition,
he joined Robinson's staff from late March through the end of the Stanley Cup
playoffs the past two seasons. Carpenter played 18 seasons in the NHL with
Washington, the Rangers, Los Angeles, Boston, and New Jersey, winning the
Stanley Cup with Devils in 1995.
Terreri, 36, spent 11 of his 13 NHL seasons with the Devils, winning Stanley
Cup in 1995 and 2000. Kinnear, 28, retired in December due to medical
reasons. He spent most of his career with Albany, and remains the club's
all-time leader in games played (406).

The Devs sure like their Terreri!
