Devils set coaching staffs

Aug. 3: East Rutherford, NJ -
The New Jersey Devils have promoted
Bob Carpenter to head coach of
their top development club, the
                     American Hockey League's Albany
River Rats, while adding Chris
                     Terreri and Geordie Kinnear to
Albany's staff as assistant coaches.
                     John Cunniff and Kurt
Kleinendorst have been re-assigned to New
                     Jersey's scouting staff. Jay
Leach, former head coach of the Springfield
                     Indians and Hershey Bears, was
named an assistant coach for the
                     Devils. The announcements were
made by Devils'
                     CEO/President/General Manager Lou
Lamoriello.

                      "I feel that [these] additions
will fit in well with our existing coaching staff
and be beneficial to both our
veteran and young players," said
                     Lamoriello.

                      Carpenter, 38, spent the past
two years as a member of Albany's
                     coaching staff, and was the
club's associate coach in 2000-01. In
addition to his time in Albany,
he joined Larry Robinson behind the
Devils' bench from March 24, 2000
through the team's 2000 Stanley
                     Cup Championship, and worked with
New Jersey during the 2001
                     playoffs. Carpenter retired as an
active player August 16, 1999
                     following an 18-year NHL career
with Washington, the NY Rangers, Los
                     Angeles, Boston, and New Jersey.

                      Terreri, 36, split the 2000-01
season between New Jersey and the NY
                     Islanders. His 13-season NHL
career included 11 seasons with the
Devils. Terreri is second on the
club's all-time games played list (302)
                     among goaltenders. He is also
second in minutes (16,561), wins (118),
                     shutouts (7), ties (34) and
goals-against average (3.07). Terreri was
                     New Jersey's third selection and
the 87th overall pick in the 1983 Entry
                     Draft.

                      Kinnear, 28, retired as an
active player December 22, 2000 due to
medical reasons. He spent most of
his professional career with Albany,
                     and remains the club's all-time
leader in games played (406) and
                     penalty minutes (1,094). Kinnear
was a member of the River Rats' 1995
                     Calder Cup Championship team,
played in the 1996 AHL All-Star
                     Classic, and served as team
captain for three seasons.
