Your points aren't lost on me, Pete.
I'm an assistant sports editor, so I def. know the business end of these
things. I very much respect the team's self-imposed salary cap. If more teams
did this, things wouldn't be as out of hand as they've gotten - esp. in other
sports.
In years past, I've just kind of watched guys come and go and when they're
gone, they're gone. It's always been team first for me. This incarnation has
been my favorite, though (I'm pretty big on ranking things) and when these
guys leave, well, right now it feels wrong. They're gonna start taking pieces
of me with them. Maybe the new crop will make me even more excited about
hockey - although I find that hard to believe.
It won't make any less of a Devils fan, just a bit despondent about it. After
all, how upset can I really be about the poor guy that makes $3.5 mill?
