Short version:

Mike Van Ryn was drafted late in the first round by the NJD the same year
Gomez was drafted. He wanted lots more money than Lou was willing to
offer. He circumvented league draft rules by leaving the University of
Michigan to play in the OHL. He then became a UFA and was signed by St.
Louis. He is not the kind of guy I want on my team. I doubt Lou would be
quick to reaxquire him despite his skils.
