[Devils-list] Heartless, Gutless, and Just Plain Stupid

As much as I hate to hear Clement and Thorne harp on this, the fact is that
Patrick gave the Devils a gift tonight.  We can only hope, the confidence
they got from seeing "Saint Patrick" as less than perfect is enough to
finally get them playing Devils hockey the way they did in the third. I am
not naive though.  The Devils have yet to play a complete game.  They looked
terrible out there tonight.  Going back to the Roy gift, you could also say
that the Devils D gave Colorado two gifts.  If Stevens doesn't over commit
to Hejduk in the first, he probably stands up Blake at the line, and if
O'Donnell plays Drury instead of the puck, it probably rolls in on Brodeur
harmlessly. I think we should be able to take heart in the fact that the
series is even at 2 and the Devils have not played well yet.  On the other
hand, when are they going to start playing well? Monday night? Never?
Game 5, as in most 2-2 series, is pivotal. It's on the road, where they
supposedly thrive, and if they can win, they come back here up 3-2. Can they
still win the Cup if they lose Game 5? Of course, but it's unlikely, given
what they've shown so far. In my opinion, they are damn lucky to be even in
this series. They need to play a full 60 minutes the way they played that
third period. Thank God the third was the period they played that way,
because that's the period I want freshest in their minds.  On the plus side,
Elias, Sykora, and Gomez all got on the board, and Mogilny is thisclose. If
those four start creating chances the way they are capable of, I think we'll
see the team we are used to.  The question mark of course is Arnott, who was
a no show in this series really, and of course took a puck to his melon
tonight. How bad is he? Can he play next game?  if he does, will he be the
Arnott we are used to, or the pussy who skated for the first three games
(goal notwithstanding)? Tune in on Monday...
