Arnott taken to hospital for X-rays
Associated Press
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. New Jersey Devils center Jason
Arnott was taken to the hospital after collapsing when he was hit
in the face by the puck early in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals
Saturday night.
Arnott did not play after the first period and went for
precautionary X-rays.
On the first shift of the game, Arnott was struck near his left
temple by Colorado defenseman Adam Foote's clearing attempt along
the boards near the Avalanche bench.
Arnott went to the dressing room, then finished the first
period. But he did not return to the Devils' bench at the start of
the second period.
Arnott, who centers New Jersey's struggling 'A' line, missed
about 2½ minutes of ice time in the first. He returned to the bench
around the 7-minute mark and resumed a regular shift throughout the
rest of the first period.
Devils coach Larry Robinson moved Sergei Nemchinov up to the top line in Arnott's absence.
When he was injured, Arnott skated off the ice and, while behind
the bench, collapsed near the door. Shortly after, he got up and
walked off unassisted to the dressing room.
The Devils trailed 2-1 in the best-of-seven series entering
Saturday's game.
Arnott had scored one of New Jersey's first three goals in the
series before Saturday. His linemates Petr Sykora and Patrik Elias
had no goals through the first 10 periods of the series including
the first period of Game 4.
Elias scored his first of the series, with New Jersey
shorthanded, to tie it 1-1 about 3½ minutes into the second. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
