Since they chose not to air the game at the arena due to their concerns about
the quality of the transmission, I agree that they shouldn't have mentioned
it.
As for not letting fans know when the team was coming home from
Dallas...several folks at the arena that day told us that they called the
Devils' number and the info was on their answering machine. BUT, try to
imagine winning the Cup (after a LONG and stressful series), being up pretty
much all night, the end of a LONG season...I'd want to get in my car, drive
home and sleep for 4 days. As it was, many players hung out and talked to
TV, radio and the fans.
I think the Devils DO care about their fans. They treat families very
well...there was a poll in one of the local newspapers (I think the Ledger)
asking people which local area sports team they be more inclined to bring
their family to see...the Devils ran away with this one. I DO like the idea
of having discount nights (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 t-shirts for $whatever)
several times a year, but I also understand Lou and management being loyal to
season ticket holders (since I am one). If you write to the Devils'
management via their website, they are very diligent in answering back
quickly.
I prefer the Devils treatment of their fans as compared to the Blackhawks
or the Bruins....I have friends in both towns who belong (or belonged in
Boston's case...no fan club left) to their fan clubs. The management at both
places treat/treated them with no respect making it difficult to keep these
fan clubs viable. Since these are 2 Original Six teams, this is very sad.
Just one more thought...if you are not a member of the Devils' fan club, join
up next year (www.devilsfanclub.org). Lou Lamoriello comes to our first
meeting in September every year. He'll stay and answer questions (no matter
how hostile some folks get) and I've seen him take some suggestions into
consideration and act upon them.
