I agree wholeheartedly AJ. And let me also add in... Newark has a bustling
downtown business district. It would make it very convenient for
corporations based there to indulge in season tix and take clients or
whoever. I doubt many of them are making the traffic infested trek up to
the Meadowlands. It's easier to get to Manhattan from Newark than it is to
get to the Meadowlands. Just hop down to Penn Station.

I gotta jump in on this one... They have been exploring different
locations for years now. In fact, the Yankee-Nets Corporation has an entire
child company called Newark Sports and Entertainment in place to handle the
building of the new arena. It has been in place before the location was
chosen, and they have studied all the possibilities. I know because I did
some work for them in their main offices. They have traffic and parking
studies completed, and I the plans include a parking structure. The
character of the proposed design is beatiful, and includes reatail shops
that will help generate revenue even when the arena is empty. Also, Newark
has undergone a resurgence over the past 10 years, and is really a lot nicer
than it's reputation. I've been to games at the Newark Bears stadium, and
been to outdoor parties at the Performing Arts Center. Newark is no less
safe than Detroit, Baltimore, etc... The MCI center is dead in the middle
of Washington DC now... They moved it from the outskirts into the downtown
area. Have any of you gone to a game at the MCI Center?

What are you talking about a lot needing security? There is security at
the Meadowlands now....

I, even if I am in the minority, think Newark will be a great place for
the new arena.

Business people have a chance to take clients to the games now, I also
wonder if while they try to entice more companies to come to the new arena
it won't price out the average fan. Again a new arena will be nice but geez
not in Newark - I still think they should have explored the current area
further and looked into Whitman's idea of a new arena and a sports park that
would have bus service to the game if you wanted it but that you could also
have the option of parking right at the arena and not in some lot that will
need security.
