First off, in defense of Holik, (?!?!)that quote is taken out of context. I
read it in three different places, and I forget which one had it now, but
only ONE of those stories included the previous sentence, which was
something to the effect that they don't get the recognition they deserve
because NJ does NOT promote individuals or lines, but rather, the entire
team, therefore, nobody knows about them.

Some people are just so quick to jump on Holik... personally, I don't see
it.  I don't remember reading in some time that he didn't want to play with
McKay anymore.  That year he held out in camp, when he did report, he came
in and put up some damn good numbers. He's always given 100% on the ice,
even if sometimes when he speaks he comes off as a bit of an ego.

As for Straka, I can't stand him either and would love to see someone shove
a stick down his throat blade first. Just after Mario but before Jagger.

  Well... Randy's killed a bird.  Without further ado... let's go to
Tampa and watch the Devils, okay?

--PREGAME NOTES
-Our favorite Unabrower had this to say when asked about the Devils'
 line of Elias, Arnott & Sykora:  "They are a part of the team, and
 it's a team game ... Other teams have big lines and they try to
 promote them instead of the team. Well, you know what, it's not like
 that here."
 What a F-Tart.  Yes, it's a team game, and they ARE a part of the
 team, but would it absolutely kill him to say they're having a good
 year, or they've been working hard, or work well together?
 First he doesn't want to play on the McKay line even though it was
 the one line he PERFORMED on.  Now what?  Maybe he's JEALOUS of the
 EA Sports line?  Look, Bobby, we know you centered the line and wore
 the "A" at the start of the year, but we all know the "A" just stood
 for Arnott. :op
-And just a secondary note on what Fischler had to say about Straka
 being the least likable guy on the Penguins, and how he needed an
 elbow to the mush or something...  What, Fischler? Did he score on
 Richter and then say something derogatory about your high holy Rangers?
 Maybe he scored on Richter and asked "What's my name...?"  Or did he
 just not kiss your ass?  Turn you down on an interview?  Someone should
 throw YOU an elbow in the mush.
-The Leafs should make face shields or protective eyewear mandatory--at
 least just for players on their team.  First was Berard, then Sundin
 needed 15 staples to close a cut between his eyes inflicted by a puck
 on a clear attempt by a teammate...  Now, we have Garry Valk, hit near
 the eye with Tucker's stick in PRACTICE.  Tucker explains it this way:
 "We'll have to see what happens, but I'm almost positive he's going to
 be fine," Tucker said. "He was standing at the side of the net and I
 didn't even see him standing there and the puck came to me and I shot
 it and my stick rode up another guy's stick and it was just a bad
 situation." Great.  My English teacher'd have a field day... something
 about a run-on-sentence.
-And to all Flyers fans out there... I'm sorry.  I know I picked up Keith
 Primeau, and I know he got hurt... but that wasn't my intention, really.
 ...but don't get any bright ideas and send Lindros after me, because we
 all know that I could pick him up even though he's not playing, and he'd
 hit his head getting into his car or something and have to end his career
 due to concussions.  (oh wait, sorry... you might WANT that *s*...  in
 which case Lindros'll kiss and make nice nice with Bobby Clarke and you
 can see the two Eric roadshow live in Philly again!)  (for those of you
 who don't know, the "two Eric roadshow" is Lindros & Desjardins... coined
 by none other than the recaps' resident Flyer fan, Erik)
-Just a reminder, I'm going to Michigan on Saturday, March 31st, and will
 return Wednesday evening (April 4th).  Be sure to check my page for the
 road diary, complete with pictures!  And yes, there are plans to attend
 Red Wings/Capitals at Joe Louis Arena on April 1... complete with Brodeur
 jersey and 1995 Stanley Cup patch. *smirk*
-As for actual DEVILS pregame notes... The general consensus among players
 is that the loss of the streak is no great loss.  McKay said it best,
 perhaps, when he said that "It happens to all teams, and you're going to
 run into losses in the playoffs, and you can't let any of them get you
 down... as for the streak, it was nice, but I think the loss just gets
 pressure off of us."
-The Tampa coach says that Lightning rookie Brad Richards should be a
 contender for rookie of the year honors, but won't win the award because
 "..the position of the team hurts him a lot.  The team hasn't played well."
-Ugh... Fischler's TALKING.  Someone PLEASE throw him an elbow.
 Oh GOD and here it comes.  "You know I got angry during the game, I said I
 thought it would be good if the Devils went out there and punished some
 guys... Throw an elbow on Martin Straka--bring him down a little"...

-And as Florida confuses us with shot totals...  We thought it was
 Devils 10 shots, Tampa 3... ESPN says the Devils have
 11 shots, and the Lightning 3 shots... TAMPA thinks the Devils have
 11 shots, and that the Lightning have 4 shots.  I think I go along
 with popular belief... 11 shots (2 votes...)  and 3 shots (2 votes)
-It's a grand PLOT I tell you... We argue about shot totals, and
 THIS happens:

Rafalski's attempt to be a good little defenseman fails
as Frederick Modin rips a shot from near the boards outside
the faceoff circle... it looks like it might have gone off
Brad Johnson... but replay says unh-unh... hits Rafalski
and passes by the Beezer

-Randy smacked upside the head with the flat side of a stick... that's
 ILLEGAL.  He'll go off for stitches...
-Uh... can we get a power play?
-Screw that... CAN WE GET THE GAME!??!  News flash!  The Devils/Lightning
 game has been PRE-EMPTED to show us this EXTRA-SPECIAL footage of...
 placing the net properly on the moorings? ... with NO SOUND...

Niedermayer in from the side... picks the pass from
the jealous Mr. Holik, who took it from Colin White,
because Colin's a rookie--he can't be out there at
the same time as the ILLUSTRIOUS Bobby Holik... cuts
across to the front of the net... seems a little...
CONFUSED about what to do... doesn't get the shot he
wants, but it's good enough to get the job done, eh?

-Sarich is back!  We may not have much here in Tampa, but WE GOT HOCKEY
 PLAYERS!!!
-And... we've got a new mask on Beezer...  *Crying* EEEEEEIIIIIWWWWWW!!!!!
-UPDATE!!!  JAILBREAK JAILBREAK!  Pittsburgh scores again against Buffalo
 as KEVIN STEVENS (hey we've got a St. Louis here in Tampa!) scores... on
 the assist from his protege BILLY TIBBETTS.  *s*  Talk about role models.
-The Modin goal was originally Ryan Johnson's 8th of the year, and
 assisted by Modin, but at 6:32 of the second, scoring change, and it's
 Modin's goal.
-Speaking of goals...

Mogilny... sitting outside the traffic jam out in
front of the net...  gets the puck.. arlifts it,
and it hits the crossbar and hops into the net
where it belongs.  And Mogilny gets a well deserved
goal... he was getting CHANFCE after CHANCE, and
getting ROBBED by Weekes... but NOT THIS TIME!

-Marty Brodeur makes Jacques Caron his bitch?  Ok, terrific!
-And... a faceless woman in a Brodeur jersey is seen in Tampa... it's MANDY!
 Scott:  "how many chicks you think have her frame and a Marty jersey ??

that comes at you as fast as Mogilny's... and out of
nowhere like Mogilny's... Weekes really doesn't have
a chance.  Mogilny just sends a shot on Weekes as he's
already off-balance... can't recover in time, and the
Devils go up by three.

-And Tampa will go on the power play... and that's some cheap points for
 Mandy as O'Donnell sits for two...

 Tampa cycles the puck... in their own zone... makes sense, right?
 They GET the puck past center ice... not for long... Corky Corkum... he
 clear da puck!
 OUR Norris and their Kubina... accidental spear by Kubina results in a
 very upset Tighty Whitey... They'll exchange gloved fists...  both will
take
 minors for it, and we'll skate 4 on 3 for at least the remainder of the

3.  Kevin Weekes.  Yeah yeah yeah, he gave up seven.  If he weren't in

2.  Alexander Mogilny.  Chances after Chances... and they finally paid
    off.  Two goals in this one, and well deserved at that.
1.  Randy McKay.  A goal, just a great game all over.  Got smacked around,
    smacked a few Tampa players around...  He came, and he came to PLAY.
