Hi everyone,
Since I haven't seen it mentioned, the Devils had their Gold Circle season
ticket holders luncheon the other day at the Meadowlands Sheraton. It was
quite nice (about 700 people there, but they did a good job). We had Jacques
Caron at our table. He's very soft spoken, but funny and was very gracious
despite our many questions and one person (who sat at our table thinking
Marty would be there) who didn't stop talking to catch her breath. He passed
around his Stanley Cup ring for all of us to try on and take pictures of.
Marty DID sit at the next table and was quite talkative!
Anyway, the awards were given out:
Assistant Coach, Kurt Kleinendorst gave out the Unsung Hero award. He
mentioned that it was pretty rare that he had the whole team's attention for
once. He said that usually "Gomer" is off doing the whatever it is he does
and Patrik and Petr are usually taking that one last shot on the ice and
Marty is playing around too. Sergei Brylin got the Unsung Hero award....good
choice.
Assistant Coach, Slava Fetisov gave out the Players' Player award to Randy
McKay. Randy said that he was almost late because he took his wife's advice
and started a modelling career....that got a few laughs (Fetisov mentioned he
just received 21 stitches after his last few encounters with pucks and
sticks). He really was at the dentist getting some repairs. Slava made it
sound like Randy is vary popular with the players.
Jacques Caron gave out the MVP award. It was a tie between Marty and Patrik
Elias. Marty told Patrik that he was now sorry he voted for him and Patrik
said "same here." Patrik said he was going to be like Julia Roberts and talk
as long as he liked since he didn't know if he'd ever get the award again.
Both thanked the fans (all of them did), their teammates, etc. Patrik made a
special mention of his "two boys" Arnie and Sykkie.
The whole luncheon was very nice. Usually they mention the awards in the
paper, but I didn't see it yesterday. If you get a chance to go (thanks to a
very generous friend who had extra tickets) you'll enjoy yourself alot!
