Gomez making a pest of himself
WINGER LIKELY TO BUMP HOGLUND FROM LINEUP

Scott Gomez has shown a lot of nerve with his crease-crashing tendencies,
Maple Leafs general manager/coach Pat Quinn says.

In Game 3 tonight, Quinn is keeping his fingers crossed the referees put an
end to the New Jersey Devils centre's exploits.

"We talk about goaltender interference," Quinn said. "Everybody wants it
called.

"TWO PHANTOMS"

"It hasn't been called against them, and it has been two phantoms (on Yanic
Perreault in Games 1 and 2) against us. One team is not getting penalized
for doing it, and the other team is getting penalized for not doing it."

Quinn was asked why he thinks Gomez has taken it upon himself to get close
to Toronto goaltender Curtis Joseph.

"He has (guts) and he is willing to go (into the crease)," Quinn said.
"Plus, if anybody touches him, he has the automatic fall."

Gomez interfered with Joseph at one point on Saturday night, and seconds
later deflected a shot by Ken Daneyko for New Jersey's first goal of the
game.

GILMOUR-LIKE

Leafs defenceman Dmitry Yushkevich said it is difficult, literally, to get a
handle on Gomez, who is listed as 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds.

"He reminds me of Doug Gilmour," Yushkevich said. "It's hard to hit him
because he has a low centre of gravity."

Joseph said he is confident Gomez will be whistled if he continues to stir
up trouble in the crease.

"If he is going to spend a lot of time in there, he is going to get called,"
Joseph said.

"(If not), I've just got to play around him."
