>Don, Don, Don...
>Come on... save percentage is hardly a stat by which to solely rank goalies
>on. Are you telling me if Cujo faces 100 shots from the blue line and stops
>them all, but Marty faces 50 shots from the slot, and misses 5, Cujo is
>better?

I wasn't aware that the Devils were getting all their shots from the
blue line and all of Toronto's were in the slot. I stand corrected.

> Fact is,
>the Devils D stops most of the easy shots before they ever get to Marty.

I wasn't aware that Toronto were totally inept in shot blocks... I
remember something about 22 shot blocks in game 1, but I must have
been a typo... and so what about tonight game. Are you suggesting
that the only reason we got 45 shots is because 22 of them weren't
blocked? That really, Toronto was skating circles around us? The
reason we got 45 shots is because they were all perimeter shots?

> Bottom line is I want a goalie who brings everything, not just save
>percentage.

I, on the other hand, want a goalie who can block some shots. I ask
nothing more. I want my goalie to BLOCK THE SHOTS. Maybe you want
something else.

>Cujo has always been one of the
>tops in Save percentage in the NHL, and yet, gee... he has no rings.

He's never been on a team that could win it before. If it were
possible to win a cup with one man alone, I'm pretty sure he'd be the
one to do it.

>A little stat:
>Cujo:
>GP	MIN	W	L	GAA
>87	5280	41 44	2.64
>
>
>Marty:
>GP	MIN	W	L	GAA
>84	5324 50	34	1.86

And these numbers have *nothing* to do with the team that plays in
front of you.
During the regular season Curtis faced 1744 while Brodeur didn't face
1600. Can you figure out why more goals were scored on Joseph? Oh,
wait, let me read that again.... Brodeur, had far less shots against
him, but let in more goals.

>That's coming into this year. games played and minutes nearly identical.
>Marty is 17 games over .500. And his goals against is more than 3/4 of a
>goal better.

Again, more shots = more goals against. Devils limit shots = less
goals = low GAA = more wins. Simple.

>That's proven consistency over 7 years in the league. Don't
>forget to add that big silver bowl either. Twice.

Yes. Of course. Because you've won the cup automatically makes you a
better player. Which means that Colin White is better than Ray
Bourque and Jay Pandolfo is a better player than Ziggy Palfy.

Fact is that Brodeurs numbers are propped up by the fact we have a
strong team. On the flip side, Joseph has played with some rather
mediocre teams that have only gotten as far as they have in the
playoffs by riding his coattails.

   -----------

It is your choice. Take your pick.

Cujo better than Marty because of save %.
Toronto forwards better than Devils forwards because of shot %.

Since you're arguing blocked shots, I gather you are leaning towards
the latter, eh?
