In case anyone in the area did not hear, 1050 AM WEVD in New York is now
ESPN radio. This makes it the third all-sports station in the area. It
should be a nice change of pace from the anti-hockey WFAN. It's signal is
stronger than the pathetic 620AM but not as Internationally powerful as
WFAN.
This would provide another possible outlet for Devils games on the radio
except for two things:
1) We have a contract with WABC
2) They are doing Islander games (at least this year)
That said it would not surprise me if in the future (after the Network
comes about) that YankeeDevilNets sells the radio rights to all three
teams to WEVD. That would give it a lot of local ratings and make it a
solid competitor to WFAN since it would have three local teams.
Before someone says that there would be even more conflicts if the
Yankees, Devils and Nets were all on the same station I submit that Mets,
Knicks and Rangers games are all on WFAN and they make it work somehow.
