Hi Don-
Yes, I agree with you about the big brother/little brother/sibling
rivalry analogy. Personally, there is no other country I'd rather have
as our nearest neighbor than Canada. My comments (not that I felt you
were aiming at me, but I've had a few days to think about what I wrote,
and I'd like to clarify) were not meant in any way to put down Canada,
or any other country. I just wanted to explain why we as Americans feel
as we do. Another example of that, is the fact that I, and another of
my friends, can trace our heritage directly back to the signers of the
Declaration of Independence. So, I guess you could say the patriotism
thing is in the blood. But believe me (us), we certainly appreciate the
help and support we've gotten from Canada in the last week, and it only
reinforces the sibling relationship in my mind. Kind of the "North
American Family" thing.
By the way, I also like "O, Canada" better than the Star Spangled
Banner, but oh well... they didn't ask me ;-)

[Don Whiting wrote:] <<(2) U.S. vs Canada. Come on. You know what it is
like to have a
brother or a sister. You have that sibling rivalry thing going.
Sometimes you get in arguments. You always are trying to compete with
your sibling, especially an older, bigger sibling. We will give a
joking ribbing whenever the opportunity represents itself. But when
the chips are down, you know you're the best friends you have in the
world.
You should see the fence around the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa... the
whole fence is COVERED in flowers, signs, letters, wreaths and I even
saw a plush tiger with a tag on it that read "Please see that I get
to a little child that lost his mommy.">>
